Trusted teacher: I am a friendly, patient, and professional Piano, Composition, Production, Music Theory, and DJ teacher from London, based in Cambridge. I have 12 years of teaching experience, and have taught pupils from 5 years old to 65! I began composition lessons with Darren Bloom at Forest School, Snaresbrook, and was awarded a scholarship to the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, followed by a place at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, where I completed an MMus in Composition in 2019. My previous tutors include Richard Ayres, Wim Henderickx, Richard Causton, Edwin Roxburgh, Ed Bennett, Joe Cutler, and Howard Skempton. I have also taken master classes from Rebecca Saunders, Mario Garuti, Anna Korsun, and Colin Matthews. I was the winner of the Orchestre Nouvelle Generation Composers Competition 2016/17, and the Birmingham Conservatoire Orchestral Composition Prize 2015. Distinguished ensembles and performers who have performed my works include the DoelenKwartet, HERMESensemble, Syzygy Quartet, Ossian Ensemble, Noszferatu, Decibel, David Le Page, Patrick Johnson, Sara Minelli, Rowland Sutherland, and Colin Alexander. My compositions have been featured at world-famous festivals including the String Quartet Biennale Amsterdam and TROMP Percussion Festival and at venues such as Kings Place and Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ, as well as various venues throughout Europe, North America, and South Africa. In addition to classical composition, I also write advert soundtracks on a regular basis for clients such as GHD, Lanvin, Japanese Vogue, Mariana Jungman (London Fashion Week), Cent Magazine, and Face Lace. I have completed a number of scores for award-winning short films 'Wanted' by Graeme Montgomery, and 'Genesis' by Beatrix Haxby. I am also a bassoonist, having studied with Adam Mackenzie (New London Chamber Ensemble) and John Orford (London Sinfonietta). I was a member of Essex Youth Orchestra for four years, and have written a new repertoire for the instrument including a number of Concert Studies and also a Bassoon Quartet. I am also an active DJ under the alias 'Delian Sound', playing eclectic sets from Garage to Jungle. I studied with international artists including Kasey Riot and Noah Priddle at the London Sound Academy and have performed in venues such as SET, Dalston alongside artists including Chiminyo and D’vo. Tutoring Experience: From 2009-2011 I taught Drumkit to students aged between 10-15 at a local Rock & Pop School. I've also been involved in a number of music courses for children between 2009-2014 as a Supervisor / Sound Technician. In 2016 I began giving private lessons and built up a group of over 20 pupils ranging from 5-year-olds to adults through positive word-of-mouth. Between April-July 2017, I was contacted by a local primary school to give small group lessons in Piano and Guitar. Alongside my studies in Amsterdam, I continued to teach a similarly wide age range of pupils. Since 2019 I have taught Composition & Musicianship at the Saffron Walden Centre for Young Musicians. I have an Enhanced DBS check, available upon request. Tutoring Approach: My philosophy in Music Tuition is to improve the student's technique through exercises and pieces which they enjoy. I also provide general music education as I believe in a holistic approach, and increasing their passion for music which will increase their motivation for practice and improvement.

Trusted teacher: I am an electronic music producer with a Master’s degree in Music from the renowned Rockacademie in Tilburg, Netherlands, and I have a music studio in the heart of Amsterdam. Working under the name Malvae, I write, sing, produce, mix, master, and perform my own music, enabling me to provide the entire process under one roof. My journey has led me to the Spotify Viral 50 charts in the USA on nr.17, features in films like the upcoming documentary 'King of the Streets', directed by an award-winning filmmaker, and even a Netflix series. With over 7 million streams to date, I am now excited to share my knowledge and experience with a few dedicated students. Earlier this year, I had the honour of headlining my own show at the Melkweg in Amsterdam, showcasing a self-built live set accompanied by immersive visuals. I also had the pleasure of teaching at Wisseloord Studios in Hilversum. In addition to my artistry, I work as an audio engineer for radio, podcast series, create custom music for film, and offer mixing and mastering services for various clients. I also have experience working on promotion plans and collaborating with PR agencies, which has helped me successfully build my own fanbase of over 10,000 Spotify followers through targeted advertising on Meta. I truly believe that everyone has the potential to discover their distinct sound if they are willing to put in the work. Whether you are just starting your musical journey or looking to dive deeper into the creative process, I invite you to book a lesson with me. Together, we can explore where you currently stand and how I can help you take your music to the next level. I can show you how to work with analog gear, as I have a collection of synthesizers, including the Prophet 6, Moog DFAM, Minitaur, and Ableton Push 3. If you're interested in performing live, we can even translate your music into a live set using Ableton Live and work with Resolume to bring your sound to life visually, creating an engaging experience for your audience. My music often incorporates samples I record from my travels around the world. About 90% of what you hear in my productions comes from these field recordings, which I manipulate and blend with synthesizers and my voice. I found my sound this way, and I want to guide you on your journey to discovering yours. Don’t worry; we won’t have to go to the ends of the earth to find it. I’ll show you the tools to recreate or transform any sounds you already have, helping your productions stand out. Of course, we can also simply talk about your music or receive feedback, whatever you feel is best for you. My expertise includes, but is not limited to, Ableton Live, mixing, mastering, composition, sound design, industry insights, live performance, synthesis, music theory, and audio engineering. While I primarily work in Ableton Live, my knowledge is applicable to any program you use. Lessons will be tailored to your individual needs, and I offer sessions both online and in-person at my studio. I believe in providing a consistent and supportive experience, no matter the format. For online lessons, I use a program that allows me to listen to your music or projects in HD quality through a plugin you load onto your master channel, ensuring we can collaborate effectively in real time. I look forward to the opportunity to work with you and help you grow as an artist!

Trusted teacher: ABOUT THE LESSONS My lessons are for all levels and all ages. We can work on specific skills that you are interested in mastering, such as orchestration principles, harmony, notation software, Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs), and more. We will work together to design the course that is perfect for you. ABOUT ME I am an experienced music educator and have taught hundreds of lessons ranging from beginners to the graduate level. I structure my lessons around students' goals while encouraging them to keep open minds (and ears). I am a graduate of Yale University, the École Normale de Musique de Paris, the Fontainebleau Conservatory, and the Royal Carillon School of Belgium. I currently make music in Paris, where I am a 2023/24 lauréat of the Cité internationale des arts and a Mortimer Hays Traveling Fellow from Brandeis University. I was the 2021-2022 recipient of a Fulbright-Harriet Hale Woolley Award at the United States Foundation in France, and received the 2022 Rosalind Swenson Fulbright Enrichment Award. I am also a Fellow of the Belgian-American Educational Foundation. My most recent musicological article, "Overtones, Sonic and Politic: Octatonicism, Minor Thirds, and Bells," was published in Volume 71 of the scholarly journal of the Guild of Carillonneurs in North America in April 2022. Although I studied classical composition in school, I write music in many genres including classical, rock, jazz, pop, and film scores. I played the guitar and the drums in several rock and folk bands in high school. My favorite band is the Beatles. Outside of music, I enjoy making watercolor paintings of trees.

Trusted teacher: A composition class that is tailored to your musical needs! This class's main purpose is to help you find your own musical language and voice, either you are a complete beginner in music or a highly skilled musician. The most important question that you will be asked is ''Why?'', in order for you to learn to have control over your musical product, sound and decisions, so that you are always sure that your musical vision is being well translated and transmitted through your work. In this class we are going to work with: 1) Compositional techniques --- Every lesson we are going to discuss about how do you think your piece should be, and about what does your piece need. For that you will need your intuition but also your ''tools'', and those are your compositional techniques. We are going to see them in other pieces and learn how to use them through your own musical vision. 2) Instrumentation --- To write acoutic music you need your ''arsenal'' and those are the instruments that you might use. In this class we will learn the categories, material, sound, structure and combinations of every instrument. We will learn together how each instrument works and how to notate it on paper, so that you are never limited by the nature of the instrument, but instead you are going to be able to bring out 100% of your music. 3) Arranging --- To make sure that you keep your instrumentation skills, we need to put them to use, not only in your music, but also in an arrangement. Together we are going to work on changing the instrumentation in piece and making arrangements of them so that you have a better nderstanding on how the instrumentation of a piece affects directly the compositional proscess and purpose of a piece of music, but also what are the differences between the sound of each instrument while combining them. Also, this will help you make decisions about the result of the arrangement, do you want it to be true to the original, or not? If not, why, and how do you do that? 4) Music History --- Together we will listen to music and learn some basic music history so that you have a better understanding of the different styles, structures and aspects of music, from the Byzantium and Middle ages music, all the way to the music of today. 5) Improvisation --- If you are also an instrumental player, will work also with improvisation. With improvisation you can strengthen your compositional skills, by understanding your intuition, developing your ear, understanding your taste and learning to work with few material, but the most important thing is to learn how to listen and play music with others, because by learning that, you also learn how to communicate and listen all these musical ideas that you have within you before writting (playing) them, controling them and understanding what is needed and what is not in your music. 6) Film scoring --- If you are interested, in this lesson we will also learn how to adapt music to screen. We will learn how to spot the tempo, feeling and texture of a scene but also how to enhance the message of a movie/game/scene/theatre play/documentary with our music. Furthermore will will learn how to use software for midi composition, and VST instruments 7) Electroacoustic composition and sound design --- If you are also interested in electroacoustic music, in this lesson we will learn how to work with sound editting, mixing, design and engineering. We will listen and learn a lot of electroacoustic compositional tecniques to help you explore, understand and work with a complete different musical world. Our goal is to grow your musical perception and horizon. 8) Music notation and software --- For us composers to write our music sometimes we need to use some programs that help us. In the lesson we will learn how to use programs like that, like Musescore, Sibelius, Reaper etc.

This course is just what you need. In this class, you will learn: - how to transform sound using analogue and digital techniques. - how to create sound structures and organise them in a DAW enviroment to compose a piece of music. - how to record, edit and mix sounds using both conventional and experimental techniques. - how to use improvisation in both the context of live performance and composition. - about the theory and practice of free improvisation. - about the history and origins of electronic music and how it affected the music we listen today. - how to document and communicate procedures related to your artistic practice. - how to create an artistic portfolio. Aspiring musicians with a background in any genre can take advantage of this course. A formal education in music or experience with electronic music composition are not required to follow. Experimental electronic music composition / Free improvisation (theory & practice) (Rotterdam)
Yannis
We just have started to work with Yannis, but I am really happy about how we progress and feel inspired and looking forward to future lectures. Yannis teaches me to develop a vision on how to approach working with sound, while recording, processing and using it in electronic composition. I would say he is opening my mind in a way toward the analysing a character of sound as a compositional element. I like that lessons are not only just about a particular technique (and there are so many to learn from Yannis), but about developing a workflow and a mindset. Examples from historical electronic pieces to listen and analyse from legendary electroacoustic composers are really inspirational. After each lesson there is a home task and in the following lecture there is an analysis of the results and based on that Yannis gives lessons on what needs to be changed, improved, pay attention to etc, in order to develop compositional skills. I highly recommend Yannis as a teacher, if you are into modern experimental electroacoustic composition and improvisation.

Jim
I had been searching for electronic music production lessons for my son, who loves creating music on FL Studio, for some time. When I saw Jim's ad, I was impressed by his credentials and experience in the field, so I decided to book a lesson for my son. My son really enjoyed the lesson and found Jim's teaching style engaging and interactive. Jim was able to explain complex concepts in a way that was easy to understand, and he tailored the lesson to my son's interests, which made the learning experience even more enjoyable. My son left the lesson feeling inspired and motivated to continue with Jim as his tutor. As a parent, I am pleased to have found such a skilled and dedicated tutor, and I would highly recommend Jim to anyone looking for high-quality electronic music production lessons.
