I am also happy for students to interrupt the flow of the lesson if a burning question arises. Academic Credentials – I am studying for a PhD in Music at the University of Cambridge. – I hold an MPhil in Music from the University of Cambridge, where I specialised in Historical Musicology and Musical Aesthetics. – I have a first-class music degree (74.4%) from the University of Manchester, where I won three Hargreaves Prizes for Academic Achievement. I studied violin with Julia Hanson (formerly of the RNCM) and Sophie Rosa (soloist, former teacher at the RNCM and Cheethams School of Music). – I hold a distinction (92%) for an ATCL Diploma in Violin Performance. Teaching – I have over a year's experience working as a freelance academic tutor with many different organisations and online education platforms. – I have worked as an Assistant Music Teacher, which involved teaching Music A-Level students. – I have worked as a Violin Teacher for 8 years (since I was 17). This class offers an ethnographic journey of practises and cultures in rural Jamaica, illustrated through photos, songs and videos. Let's explore life in rural Jamaica! Born and raised in a remote rural district/village, I will take you on an authentic journey of first hand experiences- reliving fond childhood memories, the stories my grandmother told me and what a typical day is like. This will be grounded in the history and culture of Jamaica. Coming from a background in diplomacy, sharing about Jamaica's culture and historical experiences has always been essential for opening the door to a deeper unerstanding. I have an avid interest in other cultures and always take the time to explore wherever I go. Having been to South and Central America, Asia, North America and Europe, I know the unique value of such rich experiences. Whenever I was home-sick while posted abroad, talking about my homeland was the only cure. I will share with you all there is about living in rural Jamaica, from different perspectives of my childhood, teenage years and adult life. One unique bit is that the district's enduring small farms form the centrepiece around which everything revolves. My first lesson with Daniel was just what I wanted and more. Daniel made me feel very comfortable and let me play some music I had been working on. Then Daniel looked at all aspects of my playing in a thorough manner and signposted plans for future lessons. I was really wanting my technique to be reviewed thoroughly and Daniel did exactly this, in a very supportive and encouraging manner.
