CLASS INFORMATION Who are the guitar lessons for? The guitar lessons in Monnickendam are intended for everyone, young and old, beginners and advanced. Want to know more? What can I learn? Blues, pop, rock, jazz, classical, ethnic, playing together, soloing, improvising, reading notes, reading tabulation, music theory, solfege, harmony, plectrum and finger striking techniques, working with sounds and effect pedals, playing songs by ear and creating your own compositions. In short, the world of guitar in music is vast and how you want to approach music is different for everyone. So we don't use the same book or method for everyone; everyone is working on their own musical development at their own level and the lessons are tailored to that. Through consultation, your own input and by playing together, we look for practice material that suits you and is suitable for you to progress on the guitar. What do I need? First of all, a well-playable guitar! In consultation with your guitar teacher, it can also be decided to purchase a specific lesson book or lesson method. We often also look up the songs that the student would like to play on the internet, which we then write down together and work out in the guitar lesson. It is also always useful to bring something with you to record the guitar lesson, such as a smartphone, tablet, etc., so that you can listen to the lesson again at home. Finally: last but not least...you need enthusiasm and perseverance. In guitar lessons you can learn everything in a proper way, but after that it really only starts; practicing at home, practicing, practicing to get everything under your fingers! RULES - General terms and conditions Guitar lessons Monnickendam uses the following general terms and conditions: Teaching days Teaching days and holidays are more or less in accordance with primary education in the Netherlands North region, with the difference that lessons are also given in the evenings and at weekends. With weekly lessons this means approximately 40 lessons per year. Lesson times and rescheduling The student has in principle weekly lessons at a fixed time and day (exceptionally once every 2 weeks). Flexible lesson times are possible in consultation with the teacher. Rescheduling a lesson can be done by phone (text/call) or email up to 24 hours in advance. The teacher will respond as soon as possible to confirm that the cancellation has been received. If the student fails to do so, the possibility of rescheduling the lesson will lapse. If the teacher is unable to attend, the same notification obligation applies; if the teacher is absent for longer than 2 weeks, a replacement will be arranged. In all cases, the teacher will do his/her utmost to accommodate the student, but this cannot be guaranteed. In practice, it usually works out. Rescheduling is done within reasonable limits. In other words: the teacher is happy to cooperate if you have a nice (children's) party, but of course not every month. Payment In consultation with the teacher, cash in class or by deposit. Students over 21 years of age are subject to VAT. Group education rates in consultation with the teacher. If a student wants to stop the lessons, that is always possible, we have a 1 month notice period. This means finishing the lessons already paid by invoice and then stopping. Jan Wouter Jan Wouter teaches in the Waterland region (Monnickendam, Broek in Waterland). He is the founder of the Amsterdam Guitar School. He studied jazz guitar at the Amsterdam Conservatory and obtained his master's degree at the Rotterdam Conservatory. As a guitarist he enjoys international fame with the crossovers Maghreb Jazz and Sharqi Blues, developed by him.

Since 2014, I am teaching students who are living in different parts of the world via Zoom/Skype/Meet – in English, French, Farsi and Turkish languages, and it is working very well. Do you: – have limited access to good teachers where you live? – have a busy schedule or travel frequency? – want to ensure a strong foundation with a highly qualified, experienced and resourceful teacher? – want a more professional help and advice than you can currently receive from private local teachers? All you need to have is an internet connection, a guitar, webcam, headphone/ speaker and a microphone. The exercises and pieces that you need to work on will be sent to you via email or other ways that you might prefer. On the other hand, you can send me a recording of you playing the pieces and exercises before the beginning of our Zoom/Skype/Meet session or play live on Zoom/Skype/Meet. Then we will be able to discuss the ways that you can improve technically and musically, and find the best ways that work for you. I teach Classical, Flamenco and Acoustic Guitars, and I am open to all kind of musical styles. I have a Licentiate Diploma in Teaching Classical Guitar from the University of West London (UWL’s highest teaching qualification). I am a passionate teacher, and enjoy working with a wide age range (currently from 5 to 60) and a variety of levels (from beginner to advanced). I don’t believe in “one size fits all” methods, so my lessons are tailor-made to help students with different backgrounds, goals, and interests improve faster. Importantly, I use graded curriculum with students. This method helps the students to learn the instrument in a systematic way. This way, they can benefit from a faster learning pace and enjoy the sense of progress, and ultimately, become better musicians. Moreover, if you are preparing for international examination board assessments such as London College of Music (LCM) , Trinity College (TCL), ABRSM, etc, an audition, or a recital, I would be able to help you succeed. Other than Guitar lessons, I teach Music Theory, Music Analysis, and Music Composition. Importantly, I use graded curriculum with students. This method helps the students to learn the instrument in a systematic way. This way, they can benefit from a faster learning pace and enjoy the sense of progress, and ultimately, become better musicians. Please feel free to contact me for more details.

I think that learning as an adult is a bit challenging. However, Santiago's classes are fun and it feels easy to learn. I feel I am progressing and I enjoy the lessons. Also, in every class, I discover something new about music! He is also relaxed while teaching which helps a lot when I make mistakes. I love learning with him :)
