Trusted teacher: My lessons are constructed and taught along three axis: 1) Tailoring. Pupils with disabilities require teaching sequences adapted to their individual needs as, each individual has different learning capabilities and tools.Thus, I make sure my teaching is tailored to the specific needs of my pupil. 2) Engaging and fun. I am convinced teaching and learning are more effective when both the teacher and the pupil feel engaged in the lesson. 3) Centered on critical thinking. History, geography and social sciences are ideal platforms for engaging in debates and thus critical thinking. Critical thinking is the tool that enables one to engage succesfully with the world, and oneself. Over the course of my 2 years teaching, I have focused my lessons on the following subjects (amongst others): deforestation, slavery, the dangers of internet, mushrooms and dinosaurs. I tend to make the way my lessons are taught as diversified and fun as possible. Using various tools to teach: visits to museums or events, documentaries, games, sculpture, debates, etc. On several occasions, I have had pupils coming up to my desk after or before class to further discuss the topic currently taught. Often bringing about additional information they have discovered doing their own research at home. As a teacher, their is nothing I love more as this is exactly what I aim: to spike curiosity in the students I teach.

Trusted teacher: I am an MA geography student at the University of Edinburgh who studied IB HL Geography where i earnt a 7, as well as writing my extended essay within the geographic field on coral bleaching, earning 3/3 points. I have been tutoring for three years and in that time have taught IB, A-level (AQA, CIE, OCR and edexcel), Higher, Advanced Higher, GCSE and National 5. I offer a friendly but educational approach to tutoring which is relaxed yet formative, encouraging students to think critically of what they are being asked to do and the most effective way to go about questions. I myself am a bubbly individual who believes learning is easiest through examples, so I use many case studies to inspire further independent learning for the student. I like to learn what students are struggling to grasp, work through any mind boggling definitions and further delve into the topic for a richer understanding for those extra marks in the exams. When necessary, I can mark practice exam questions that students have answered to provide feedback, as this enables students to see what examiners look for in their answers and helps portray areas that need further consolidation.

£20Introduction to Human Geography: Core Concepts and Approaches
Studying Human Geography is key to understanding the spatial differences that make up our world, how we as humans relate and experience place and space, and how inequalities exist across space. Human Geography asks us to consider: why are some areas and the people within them so different than others? This class will explore and introduction to the key basic issues and strands within Human Geography. It will start with a basic introduction to the course. We will then introduce the core theoretical and philosophical approaches that provide a lens for understanding issues in Human Geography, including postcolonialist, Marxist and feminist approaches, and identify key thinkers in contemporary Human Geography. We will then go onto to explore some of the main areas of the field, starting with cultural geographies - understanding the spatially contextual nature of cultures; political geographies — how political power produces and shapes space; economic geographies, examining the spatiality of production and the global inequalities bound up in these; and finally environmental geography, with a focus on the ways in which the political, the cultural, and economic structure intersect to produce environmental degradation —and how this produces uneven outcomes for different populations living through in this new era of the anthroprocene —or as some call it, the capitalocene. The course will cover six lessons and is ideal for a prospective Geography student considering undergraduate studies, anyone else who is interested in an introduction to the field, or needs a bit extra help to enhance their university work and understanding — and of course anyone else simply interested in the subject is welcome to join!
