Trusted teacher: English SL and Higher Level for the International Baccalaureate is a rigorous course, especially for ESL students. I completed the IB with HL English and received a 7 (highest mark) in my final exam. I will be able to go over both Standard Level and Higher Level syllabuses for the course specific to the material covered in your school, and prepare you for mock and final exams. I will include essay writing skills, literary criticism and analysis, as well as vocabulary expansion techniques in my teaching. A brief overview of the key features of English SL/HL as set by the International Baccalaureate Organisation: • Higher level study requires a minimum of 240 class hours, while standard level study requires a minimum of 150 class hours • Students study 13 works at higher level and 9 works at standard level from a representative selection of literary forms, periods and places • Students develop the ability to engage in close, detailed analysis of literary works, building understanding of the techniques involved in literary criticism • The study of literary works in context is emphasised, and through the study of literature in translation the student is challenged to reflect on the role of cultural assumptions in interpretation • Students are assessed through a combination of formal examination and oral and written coursework. • The formal examination comprises two essay papers, one requiring the analysis of a passage of unseen literary text, and the other comparative response to a question based on two works studied • Students also perform an oral activity presenting their analysis of two works studied • HL students comply with an additional written coursework requirement which consists of writing a 1200 - 1500 word essay on one of the works studied

Trusted teacher: Hello! My name is Hafsa, and I am passionate about English literature and language. I recently completed my GCSEs with AQA, achieving a grade 4 in both Language and Literature. I've studied key texts such as Macbeth, An Inspector Calls, and various war poems from the Power and Conflict anthology. My approach to learning and teaching is interactive and engaging, incorporating modern methods such as watching film adaptations to enhance understanding of historical and cultural contexts. I'm from East London, and I'm excited to help students excel in their English studies. Throughout my studies, I've developed a deep appreciation for English literature and a keen understanding of the AQA GCSE syllabus. My experience includes working with students to help them grasp complex themes and improve their analytical skills. I have a knack for making literature relatable and accessible, using a variety of techniques including discussions, multimedia resources, and practical exercises. I understand the importance of aligning lessons with common textbooks like AQA English Language and Literature resources, ensuring that students are well-prepared for their exams. I focus on creating a friendly and supportive learning environment. I believe that every student has the potential to succeed, and I tailor my teaching to meet individual needs. Whether it's dissecting Shakespeare's language or understanding the social context of a play like An Inspector Calls, I aim to make each lesson interactive and enjoyable. My goal is not only to help students achieve good grades but also to instill a love for the subject that goes beyond the classroom. I offer classes for GCSE students, particularly those following the AQA syllabus. My lessons are suitable for students of all levels, whether they need help with basic concepts or are looking to refine their analysis and writing skills. I have experience working with teenagers, understanding the challenges they face and providing guidance to build their confidence. Each session is structured to cover key syllabus content, practice exam techniques, and provide personalized feedback on assignments. Why Choose Me? Qualified & Experienced: As a GCSE graduate with firsthand experience of the syllabus, I know what it takes to succeed. We had our very first lesson with Valentin yesterday and I have decided to continue developing my skills in French language together with him due to various reasons... First of all Valentin has all the required communication skills which makes him a desirable teacher together with his kind and friendly approach. Moreover from the very first session he started to build a structure on which we can work on together. He also seems to be a good observer who can detect and correct the mistakes I make as well as providing me the right knowledge in order to improve my French as we proceed together. I would recommend Valentin if you need assistance with learning French at any level.

Our first lesson with Dean was productive and an eye-opener. The lesson made me realize there are a few critical areas that I needed to grasp and understand to articulate the IELTS exam preparation. The lesson was fun, and Dean is a good attention detail tutor; he takes time to give a clear explanation of what to focus on. His energy is amicable, and he takes his work seriously. Thank you for the first lesson, and we look forward to our following lessons.
