Trusted teacher: What are the sessions about? The sessions are to work on conversation in English through topics and content of psychology, well-being and self-help. The presentation is designed so that the person shares their comments on several occasions and elaborates responses using common vocabulary, improving conversation, fluency, vocabulary, and pronunciation. The content is on positive psychology topics, where tools for life are acquired through information and reflection exercises. Breathing techniques, mindfulness, gratitude, habits, resilience, flow state, resistance to change, and more are mentioned and used. Why use positive psychology content? According to several studies, including a study conducted by Cambridge in 2022, the best method to learn a language is through immersion (exposure and engagement). This means that when we learn topics or activities that interest us, the brain activates the prefrontal cortex, the striatum, the limbic system, and the hippocampus, which are the areas of long-term memory, motivation, concentration, reward, and emotional experience. These functions together create greater receptivity to new information. It is about talking about topics that motivate and interest us to enhance learning. They are also life tools that benefit us all. The more a person opens up to talking and reflecting on their personal experiences, whether positive or negative, the more they will be able to handle life's difficulties and improve their well-being. What level should I be at? Once you understand the written and/or spoken language, and can say the basics, we can start working. It doesn't matter if your level is basic, since that's exactly what the sessions are for. Very clear as to what his teaching methods and goals are, how he'll help you get there - then jumps right in and gets you started with no fuss. I found myself speaking sentences in Wolof by the end of the lesson, and really appreciate the additional written material he supplied as well. As someone who has taught and learned various other languages I can tell that Dembane has a really sound methodology. I'll add to this review in a few months time, but so far I am impressed. Also glad that he is pointing out regional differences between Senegal and Gambia usage to me, as it's relevant to my learning needs. He does personalise the content for the individual student, which is good to see.

We’ve had two in-person sessions with Hatice so far and they have been excellent. Her classes are engaging and accessible to students of different levels. In a class, she is very skilled at offering depth for someone who has some turkish understanding as well as being accessible to a beginner. I hope to continue a mix of online and in person lessons with her!
