Trusted teacher: My name is Guy and I live in Delft, The Netherlands. I started tutoring on Preply in December 2022 and I've gained a lot of experience since then. Apart from tutoring, I work as a journalist for a local newspaper and as a text writer. I've found that I like to work with the Dutch language in a professional way, also by tutoring. Most of the classes I give are conversation classes, with topics ranging from buying a bread in the bakery for beginning students, all the way to conversations about professional and news related topics for advanced students. I help students to gain more knowledge about the Dutch language, but above all I help them to become more confident and fluent in Dutch conversation. I teach students of all levels from beginner to advanced and I focus mainly on adults. Teenagers are welcome too. Beginning students need a lot more explanation than advanced students, so I adjust my lessons according to the level and interest of the student. To advanced students I only explain grammar every now and then if they want, as I think they benefit mostly from practice. I sometimes give listening and reading exercises during classes if the student likes this. These exercises can help the student recognize authentic Dutch speech or text better and are adjusted to the student's level. For students who wish to do homework, I have made many exercises such as gap-filling and translation exercises. I also have a book from which I can give exercises and material to study. Apart from being a native Dutch speaker, I speak English fluently and some German. I also have a limited command of the French and Spanish language. Teaching experience: I've been gaining experience as a tutor since December 2022, and it has become not only my job but my hobby too. I love to help people with learning this small but challenging language and getting to know many interesting people from all over the world in the process. I invite you to take a class with me. Having lived in several different countries I know how challenging it can be to learn a new language and to put it into practice. Especially Dutch, with it's unusual pronunciations and structures. During our lessons I will explain how to deal with such issues and show you that Dutch is actually quite a structured language and a lot less complicated that often suggested. I am a positive and optimistic person and this is also how I teach. I focus on how to do things right rather than wasting energy on why things are wrong. This creates a nice learning atmosphere and it also makes the course much more productive. I like to have an open communication with my students and encourage them to let me know what their difficulties are and what they want to improve. When learning a language it is very important that you can quickly put into practice what you have learned. This naturally motivates you to learn more. For that reason I find it important that it is clear from the beginning what the language needs and wishes of my students are so we can work towards your goals in an effective way and make sure you are able to apply what you have learned as soon as possible. The reason why I like teaching so much is because I enjoy showing people what they are capable of and to help them develop their skills. Another reason is that it allowes me to open the door for you to a great language and culture!

Rianne
Rianne was a good choice of teacher. She is extremely patient - and goodness knows trying to teach a slow-learner like me requires a great deal of patience!! She is also friendly but firm. She always arrives on time, with classes prepared but isn't inflexible with the learning. For example, If we start to stray away from the book a little and pursue something that helps me understand a point of grammar or get to grips with the pronunciation of a specific phrase, she encourages it. She understands that for me, learning a new language is a real challenge and my confidence is not especially high whilst doing it - and i'm grateful that she sees this, tries to adjust the way she teaches to fit the way that i learn and doesn't show any exasperation! I would recommend Rianne wholeheartedly.

I enjoy very much my weekly lessons with Bart. He makes learning Dutch and its culture a fun and entertaining experience, while speaking Dutch as much as possible, using English only when really necessary. The diversity of the exercises and the fact that he alternates often between listening, speaking, reading and explaining the grammar makes it very enjoyable to learn and practice. It also helps me keep my concentration without getting bored by long repetitive exercises. Bart is super friendly and patient and he makes sure to adapt the lessons to your needs from the beginning and throughout the course. I highly recommend Bart!
