Taiko Drumming is both a traditional instrument and an innovative medium for making contemporary music. I am Eva, a professional Taiko Drummer, and I have playing the Taiko drums for 30 years. Lessons will be taught online on weekdays and on-site in central Tokyo on weekends, in groups. Private lessons can be arranged upon request. Here is my profile: Born in Tokyo, Japan, Eva was raised by a family of scholars and artists with mixed German and Japanese heritage. From a young age, she learned how to play piano after her father introduced her to classical music, while she simultaneously learned Taiko after her mother introduced her to the Japanese arts. After graduating from the International School of the Sacred Heart in Tokyo, Japan, she attended Cornell University in New York, USA, where she earned a B.A. in Philosophy. While attending Cornell, she joined the Cornell University Percussion Ensemble. The following year, she co-founded the Taiko drumming student organization called Cornell Taiko (YAMATAI) and she was the lead drummer and Musical Director. After graduating from Cornell at the young age of 22, she returned to Japan and started performing professionally. She started her solo career a year later. Eva is also trained in Japanese folk dance (with a focus on male styles) and has a passion for street dance and locking. She joined an Awa dance team affiliated with the prestigious Koenji Awa Dance Association and made her way to become one of the top female dancers in Japan. Today, she brings Japanese taiko drumming and song to a brand new context of pop music and also performs with many distinguished artists, musicians, dancers, and Taiko drummers across multiple genres. Eva does not only perform using taiko, she also uses a number of other instruments that have a distinct flavor of the Japanese environment including Koto (Japanese Harp), Voice, and Piano. Eva also works in the field of education and teaches taiko drumming workshops to both children and adults and is also involved in humanitarian efforts such as raising awareness for the disabled. Her music, dynamic performances, and selfless spirit continue to inspire not only her many fans but all who witness her performances all over the world. ​ ​In 2023, her original music was published by Harper Collins Publisher and she was also the cover image of their music textbook. In 2024, her original music was utilized by Cambridge International Curriculum, used in over 160 countries and 10,000 schools, which sets a global standard for education, and is recognized by universities and employers worldwide.

Lessons available in English, Spanish, Portuguese, & German. I am Tomás , an experienced live and studio drummer with a Master Of Music degree from the Royal Northern College of Music in the UK and I am available as a private tutor. 
MY APPROACH
 I am aware that everyone is different and therefore lessons need to be individually tailored every time. I will make an effort to get to know you as a person as well as your reason for playing the drums so I can then adjust your lesson material adequately. This ensures that every student is enjoying themselves from the very first lesson and therefore the learning will naturally occur much faster.
 WHERE Lessons are at my studio in Wedding, postcode 13359. The room is spacious and comfortable and has a PA system and two drum kits, making it ideal for lessons. I am also available to teach at the student’s location; AGES I have taught one-on-one lessons to kids as young as 7 but also to adults in their 50s and 60s. Whatever your age, we will make it work.

 SKILL LEVELS 
My experience ranges from teaching young beginners who are just starting out to mature drummers who need to polish their playing. For beginner students, I will teach you the basics of drumming in an approachable way to make it enjoyable from the very start. For experienced drummers, I can improve your technique, groove, feel, tone, articulation, dynamics, stage performance, vocabulary, listening, and reading. All this so you can become a better musician, not just a drummer. I also like to teach in a way that empowers you to teach yourself in the future. ABOUT MY TEACHING EXPERIENCE I have been teaching 1-on-1 lessons for 11 years. I also have 7 years experience leading drum and percussion workshops. ABOUT MY DRUMMING EXPERIENCE I've been drumming for over 22 years and have now recorded and gigged with multiple bands, some of which I am the co-founder and co-songwriter for. Styles of music I have performed include rock, jazz, funk, psychedelia, afrobeat, disco, dance rock, electro, grunge, metal, blues, latin, and samba. I have a Master Of Music degree from Manchester’s Conservatoire (Royal Northern College of Music) in the UK. Sam is an amazing teacher, patient and open to the student's goals and suggestions. His approach is more technical than theoretical but will nonetheless get anyone willing to learn up to speed on the basics into more advanced notions. He assessed what I was already able to do on the guitar to fill the gaps and help me progress into further fields. So far he's taught me the electric guitar, a bit of bass and piano and I'm very happy about all of it.
