My approach is structured, rigorous, and designed to push students to achieve their best. While some may find my method strict, I believe in teaching the rules thoroughly so that you can confidently break them later. What I Offer: Foundational Skills: Strengthen your abilities in line work, value, proportion, perspective, and texture to build a robust technical base. Composition & Framing: Understand how to structure engaging artwork through thoughtful layout, balance, and spatial design. Rigorous Critique: Receive honest, constructive feedback to identify areas for growth and refine your individual hand. Unique Assignments with Clear Goals: Each project is tailored to address specific skills or concepts: contrast, scale, accuracy, perspective, and still life vs narrative-driven styles are just a few examples. While I set high expectations, I also offer the support and tools needed for students to rise to the challenge. After most sessions, I assign homework to be completed by the next class. I certainly expect my younger students especially to complete these assignments. While my lessons are technical and follow strict parameters, there is plenty of opportunity for students to choose their own subjects and designs. I also highly recommend my student take excellent notes during my demonstrations and instruction time. I will always share my own notes and sketch journals so the student has a goal in mind. After a section of tuition has been completed (equal to a half term) I examine the notes and give feedback. I will therefore take you through the entire professional process of designing a character for an animated project - from the fundamentals of anatomy drawing, to the initial research stage to iteration sketches, all the way through to the final model sheets! By the end, you will have created a memorable character that is unique, full of appeal, exuding personality, and ready to be animated. And you will have gained a valuable insight into the weird and wonderful world of professional character design. --------------------------------- About me: I am a professional character designer and illustrator from Australia, currently based in London, UK. In 2019, I graduated with the Bachelor of Design in Animation with First Class Honours from the University of Technology, Sydney. Trusted teacher: I am an RCA MA Painting graduate, and I have a BA(Hons) degree in Fine Art from Westminster University, and a Foundation diploma in Art & Design from the University for the Creative Arts. I am a practicing artist based in London, specializing in painting, and I have been showing my work nationally and internationally. My recent solo show was at Class Reiss London, and I also had a solo presentation at Art Athina. My fascination with tutoring derives from my sensitivity around learning disabilities, something which is a recurring theme in my practice as I grew up as a dyslexic learner, as well as my educational experience of being part of leading academic UK institutions.   Through my work as an art tutor I strive to inspire and support my students, offering insight to my experience as a RCA alumnus and to the professional life of an artist. I teach students of all ages, as I strongly believe that involvement with the arts is always eye opening and revealing, especially when this leads to a career in the arts through higher education.
