I am a music teacher with a keen interest on helping my students to develop their musical identities and technical abilities. Learning an instrument can be a fun and rewarding activity at any age, no matter if you want to become a professional musician, or just want to enjoy an artistic leisure activity. Learning music improves coordination, social and emotional skills, and makes us smarter. And music is something everyone needs in their lives, no matter the age, background or profession! I have more than fifteen years of teaching experience. Throughout this time I have met students of very different backgrounds, ages and approaches to the instrument, who have inspired me a lot. For me, teaching is also a part of my lifelong learning of the instrument, which enlightens me every time. Also, being an active performer who is used to face a wide variety of styles makes me a more versatile teacher. According to my own experience and philosophy, the best teacher is the one who teaches you how to become your own teacher. I do my best to follow this approach in my lessons, enhancing the student’s autonomy and own identity. I use a bunch of different methods and resources, which helps me to match the needs, musical taste and level of each student. I like to play a lot with my students from the very beginning, so I can help them to improve their intonation and rhythm in the most efficient way, and we have more fun playing together! A special focus is put on keeping a natural and relaxed body posture while playing, in order to produce an open sound and be able to play with comfort. Also, as you might have noticed by browsing through this website, I am especially fond of baroque music, so if you are too, I will be happy to focus on this repertoire, or even introducing you to the baroque cello. But other styles are most welcome as well! What is included in my lessons: -Personal method adapted to the individual needs of each student -Sheetmusic -Music theory basics -Leads on finding further coaching on music theory -Advice on purchase/rental of a cello -Newsletter with cello-related content If you are not able to come to my place or you live elsewhere, I also offer online lessons for non-beginner students. Trusted teacher: Hello, I'm Melanie, and thank you for visiting my profile. I am a professional musician; my principal instrument is the 'Cello and my second instrument is the Piano. At 16 years old I received the opportunity to teach young cellists for Miss Anna Shuttleworth (Casals student), during a 'Cello residential course in York. I thoroughly enjoyed supporting the students and knew from this point that teaching, as well as performing, was definitely for me. I am an encouraging, demanding and fun person to work with and make sure that structure is always present during lessons. The learning and well-being of every student is something I take seriously. The student needs to learn at their own pace, in order for them to achieve a good understanding of the Musical Language. In addition to playing the instrument, I get the student involved in musical activities, which greatly support their instrumental playing: - During lessons we sing in Solfa (doh, re, mi, fa, etc) with hand signs for younger students. This makes a huge difference towards developing the student's "inner hearing", musical memory, reading skills, playing in tune, performance presence, musicality, playing with more ease, and overall discipline. - I also enjoy involving the student in Dalcroze Eurhythmics, which is moving to music played to them, and this supports their handling of pulse and rhythm. At the moment I am mobile in Tain (Ross-shire), and teach online too. Do you have a musical child? Are you an adult keen to learn 'Cello or Piano? Then please do get in touch with me. Trusted teacher: Hello, I am a professional cellist with a master's degree from the Royal College of Music in London. Passionate about teaching music and the cello, I have been teaching for many years in music schools (music ensemble XX, passion leitmotif), conservatories (replacements) and in the private sector. There is no age to start playing an instrument: my adult students show me day after day! As for children, they can also start very early at the age of 4 and a half. (A few months depending on personality and facilities) My students benefit from comprehensive teaching, whether they are beginners or very advanced, and adapted to their personality and needs. You will quickly discover: I am a very positive and encouraging person, which allows my students to progress with serenity in a comfortable environment. If necessary, I teach the basics of music theory and music theory, being able to go in-depth according to the student's interest and needs. Musical ear, concentration, physical dispositions, memory, ability to adapt, curiosity, musical personality: all these characteristics, more or less present from the start, will develop over the course of the sessions, and you will be quickly proud of your progress. My priority in teaching the cello is to establish true well-being with the instrument, both physical and mental, with patience, involvement and constant adaptation to each person's functioning. With the rigor necessary for learning any art, I teach you patience and the joy of paying attention to details. Beginners: By obtaining a healthy and comfortable technique, you will quickly create beautiful tones. Discover the secrets of this instrument with its sound and range so close to the human voice, and its benefits on the mind. You will also discover beautiful pieces of classical music (among others!) that are affordable quite quickly, depending on your investment. You can also come with the pieces that you like, and that you would like to play. This can give a good goal, additional motivation! Amateurs and advanced: if you want to go further in interpretation, or overcome technical difficulties encountered when learning pieces, or simply deepen your cello learning. Advanced: If you wish to take an entrance exam into a music school or conservatory, or obtain additional lessons for a cello exam, some musical and mental "coaching" courses can help you. I help you strengthen your self-confidence and gently repair your bad habits. You will also be able to meet others, one day if you wish, in order to create little duets

Mikko is a very kind teacher but he makes you practise the right way. I like that he is very focussed in how to improve my tone and give me tools how to do it.
